Democrats win US House, vow action on gas and groceries
US election results live show Democrats reclaiming the House, with leaders pledging moves on gas, groceries, healthcare and the Iran war before the new Congress sits in January.
Democrats are projected to take control of the US House of Representatives; Hakeem Jeffries is on track to become the first Black Speaker in January.
Jeffries has said day-one priorities include healthcare, and lower grocery, gas and housing costs, plus reversing large Medicaid cuts.
House Democrats have signalled bills to end Trump’s global tariffs and restore Congress’s role over trade policy.
Leaders also pledge to press for an end to the war in Iran, which they link to sharply higher US gasoline prices.
Democratic committees are expected to open oversight probes into the Trump administration, including corruption allegations.
