US election results live show a clear midterm shift in Washington: Democrats are set to take control of the House of Representatives, according to a major network projection, putting Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on course to become the first Black Speaker when the new Congress is seated in January.
The contest was widely treated as a referendum on President Donald Trump. One detailed account of the US election results so far also said Democrats secured the Senate and ended unified Republican control of Congress for the first time since Trump’s return to the White House last year, after flipping long-held Republican seats in states including Georgia, South Carolina and Texas. That chamber-wide claim is stronger than the House-only projection reported elsewhere, so the firmest confirmed change for now is Democratic control of the House.
What Democrats say they will do first
Jeffries has framed the new majority around an “affordability crisis.” In a pre-election interview he said the day-one plan would focus on healthcare and on “driving down” high prices for groceries, gas and housing. He has also pledged to reinstate expired Affordable Care Act premium subsidies and to reverse nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts included in the president’s signature domestic law, the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.
House Democrats have indicated they will move quickly on legislation to end Trump’s global tariffs and restore congressional authority over trade policy. Jeffries told reporters last month that after healthcare, Democrats would have to “take on the battle of reversing the reckless war of choice that has skyrocketed gas prices on the American people.”
Gas prices, energy policy and Iran
Anger over rising gasoline and electricity prices—especially since the launch of the war on Iran—helped drive the leftward national swing, alongside voter pushback against infrastructure for artificial intelligence and large data centres. Democrats trained their campaign fire on the administration’s energy record, including the rollback of climate rules, fights over data-centre buildout, moves against offshore wind, and the redirection of decarbonisation funding.
Maryland public-affairs consultant Len Foxwell said a Democratic majority in both chambers could consider temporarily suspending the federal gasoline tax and other steps aimed at grocery prices, while also pressing on prescription drugs and healthcare costs. He added that Congress could use its power of the purse to limit or condition funding for US military operations involving Iran. Those ideas remain proposals from an outside adviser, not enacted law.
On the legislative calendar, much may hinge on the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act, a permitting-reform bill that has dominated dealmaking talk since the Senate unveiled it at the end of September. Key parts of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and the Energy Act of 2020 have already expired or are due to lapse next year. Clean-energy advocates say a Democrat-led Congress will try to restore wind and solar investment and production tax credits cut in last summer’s Republican budget measure; restoring the electric-vehicle tax credit looks less likely, they say.
Oversight in a divided capital
Alongside legislation, Democratic House committees are expected to open investigations into the Trump administration and to use subpoena power if needed. Jeffries has said probes will examine corruption allegations, including claims that pardons or contributions were linked to favourable treatment—charges Attorney General Todd Blanche has dismissed as a non-issue, citing the constitutional pardon power.
US election results live therefore leave Trump facing a House that plans both to challenge his trade, health and Iran policies and to scrutinise his government, even as the White House retains the presidency.

Aasan alfaaz mein
America ke midterm elections mein Democrats House of Representatives jeetne wale hain. Unka kehna hai ke petrol, ration aur sehat ke kharch kam karne ki koshish pehle hogi. Iran ki jang aur tarifon par bhi Congress rok-tok barha sakti hai. Pakistan mein is ka asar petrol aur dollar ke mood par ho sakta hai, lekin abhi yeh sirf imkanat hain, tay shuda nateeja nahi.
