WFP cuts Gaza food aid for about 500,000 amid funding gap
The World Food Programme will shrink Gaza’s monthly caseload, halve family parcels and cut hot meals, saying 2026 funding for Palestine is under half prior levels and $450 million more is needed in six months.
The World Food Programme (WFP), the UN’s main food-aid agency, will cut Gaza monthly assistance from about 1.6 million people to 1.1 million, leaving roughly 500,000 without that support.
Family rations fall from two parcels to one, flour bags will be smaller, and daily hot meals drop from 250,000 to 150,000; some hard-to-reach areas get meals every other day.
WFP said 2026 funding for its Palestine operation is less than half previous years and it urgently needs $450 million for critical work over the next six months.
About 1.4 million people in Gaza—67% of the population—still face acute food insecurity at crisis levels or worse, down from 1.6 million (77%) at the end of 2025.
In the occupied West Bank, WFP already halved the number of people receiving assistance in September, from 400,000 to 200,000.
