WhatsApp removes pin time limit in group chats update
The app is rolling out Group Status, permanent pins, post-join history sharing and a Mentions and replies filter on Android and iOS after announcing the changes on 29 October 2026.
WhatsApp announced four group chat updates on 29 October 2026 for Android and iOS.
Group Status lets members post 24-hour updates visible only inside a chosen group.
Pinned group messages can now stay pinned permanently instead of for 24 hours, seven days or 30 days.
Existing members can share older chat history with someone who has already joined; WhatsApp says it stays end-to-end encrypted.
A Mentions and replies filter surfaces unread groups where you were tagged, replied to, or reached via @all.
