Punjab wheat aggregators bought 160,000 tonnes vs 3m target
Wheat policy in Pakistan shifted Punjab to private aggregators who bought just 160,000 tonnes against a 3 million target, leaving flour at Rs150–170 a kilo.
National flour prices have risen from about Rs50 a kg five years ago to Rs150–170 a kg, more than 200%.
Punjab’s private aggregator scheme procured only 160,000 tonnes against a 3 million tonne target; nine of 11 firms never started buying.
Punjab now holds barely 25% of its own flour requirement and releases about 3,500 tonnes of wheat a day versus a traditional 25,000.
Government flour is priced at Rs110 a kg while private flour sells around Rs150, a Rs40 gap that retailers can exploit.
A roti that cost Rs8 in 2021 now costs about Rs25 in 2026, a rise of more than 212%.
