AI Geo Navigators office in AJK has formally opened at the Institute of Geology on the King Abdullah Campus of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) in Muzaffarabad, with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed the same day to deepen academia–industry ties. A press release issued in Islamabad on Sunday said the move is meant to advance geospatial intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven geoscience research and disaster resilience across the region.
New base at UAJK’s geology institute
The regional office sits inside UAJK’s geology institute, placing industry capacity next to teaching and research facilities in the AJK capital. UAJK Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Nasir Jamal Khattak attended the inauguration as chief guest. Speaking at the ceremony, he stressed closer work among government, universities and industry so that new technology becomes usable solutions on the ground, and he restated the university’s support for the initiative.
The MoU was signed by Asim Javid, chief executive of AI Geo Navigators, and Dr Rehana Kausar, associate professor and director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) at UAJK, which handles research partnerships and commercial links. Guests included officials from the AJK Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Department, the Livestock Department, UAJK faculty and others from development groups and the private sector.
What the UAJK MoU sets out to do
Under the agreement, both sides plan academic and professional development through teaching assistance, guest lectures, workshops, joint research and career openings for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The partnership is also meant to improve knowledge exchange, narrow the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, and open doors to internships and possible jobs after graduation.
For students in geoscience and related fields, that framing matters: contact with working practitioners, structured short courses and research projects can sit alongside degrees, while employers gain a clearer path to local talent. The press release presents these commitments as ambitions of the MoU rather than already completed programmes.
Landslides, mapping and disaster resilience
AI Geo Navigators office in AJK is expected to back AI-driven geoscience research and applied work on landslide assessment, advanced geographic information system (GIS) mapping—digital maps that combine location data with layers such as slopes or land use—engineering geology and geotechnical investigations, which study ground conditions for safe construction and hazard work.
By pairing geospatial tools with local academic expertise, the initiative aims to support disaster risk reduction, environmental assessment and sustainable development across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mountain districts in AJK face recurrent slope failures and weather-related hazards; better mapping and assessment capacity, if delivered, could feed planning and response. How fast those applications reach communities will depend on follow-through after the signing.
Aasan alfaaz mein
AI Geo Navigators ne Muzaffarabad mein UAJK ke geology institute ke andar apna regional office khol diya hai. University aur company ke darmiyan MoU ho gaya hai taake research, training aur students ke liye internship aur naukri ke mauqe banain. Kaam landslide, GIS mapping aur zameen se related investigations par focus karega. AJK ke logon ke liye yeh is liye ahem ho sakta hai ke behtar mapping aur research disaster risk kam karne mein madad de, agar yeh plans amal mein aayein.
