Cabinet panel reviews stocks and prices
Commodity prices in Pakistan today were the focus of a Cabinet Committee meeting in Islamabad on Friday, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The panel examined the stock position, supply arrangements and prices of essential commodities. Officials briefed him that stocks were adequate to meet domestic demand, that shortages were not anticipated and that prices were stabilising.
The Foreign Office said the deputy prime minister was given that assessment during the session. The meeting brought federal and provincial officials into one room to check whether households face supply gaps in daily essentials.
Monitoring orders and warning on overpricing
Dar directed all concerned departments to monitor supply chains and commodity prices so that domestic consumers are facilitated, in line with the prime minister’s directives. He stressed that strict action would be taken against hoarding, artificial shortages and overpricing of essential commodities.
Those instructions frame official oversight of markets that sell flour, edible oil, sugar and other staples. How far prices move in coming weeks will depend on enforcement and on whether stocks stay as comfortable as the meeting was told.
Who attended the Islamabad meeting
The ministers for national food security and research and for climate change took part, along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the secretary of commerce, and senior representatives from relevant federal and provincial ministries and departments.
Their presence underlines that both food supply and provincial coordination are part of how commodity prices in Pakistan today are being watched at the centre. Officials did not release item-by-item price lists or stock tonnage figures at the meeting, according to the available accounts.
