Pakistan's GDP growth for the 2025-26 fiscal year has been revised down to 3.65 percent, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said, from a provisional estimate of 3.70 percent. The revised figure was approved by the National Accounts Committee (NAC) on October 19 at its 118th meeting. Gross domestic product (GDP) is the total value of goods and services an economy produces in a year. The committee put the size of the economy at Rs126.4 trillion, or $450.4 billion.
The revised estimates also incorporated updated import data for FY2021 to FY2025, along with new quarterly growth rates. The PBS said per capita income, meaning average income per person, came to Rs531,897, or $1,896. That is slightly below the earlier estimate of $1,901. The economy was larger than the Rs114.9 trillion, or $408.7 billion, recorded for the previous year.
Farming up, industry and services slightly down
Agriculture growth for the year was revised up to 3.50 percent from 2.89 percent. The committee credited wheat and maize among important crops, and higher output of pulses, fruits, tomatoes, oilseeds and green fodder among other crops. Livestock growth eased slightly to 3.71 percent. Industry was revised down to 3.34 percent from 3.51 percent, and services to 3.81 percent from 4.09 percent.
Within industry, mining and quarrying improved to 1.52 percent. Large-scale manufacturing, measured through the Quantum Index of Manufacturing, which tracks factory output, fell to 5.01 percent from 6.11 percent. In services, wholesale and retail trade slowed to 2.37 percent, while transport and storage rose to 3.23 percent and information and communication to 9.53 percent. The committee linked the trade slowdown to lower manufacturing and imports, and the transport gain to upward revisions in railways, water and air transport.
Final quarter slowed sharply
Quarterly figures were also revised. Growth in the first quarter was trimmed to 3.89 percent from 3.92 percent. The second quarter moved up to 4.31 percent from 4.05 percent, and the third to 4.42 percent from 3.99 percent. The economy grew 2 percent in the fourth quarter, compared with 6.07 percent in the same quarter a year earlier. The PBS partly attributed this to a high base, meaning the strong figures of the previous year made growth harder to match.
Industry contracted 4.70 percent in the final quarter, after growing 20 percent a year earlier. The PBS linked this mainly to a 33.19 percent fall in electricity, gas and water supply. It cited lower subsidies, a high deflator (a price adjustment measure) and a large base effect. Agriculture grew 3.71 percent in the quarter and services 3.62 percent. The committee also revised FY25 growth to 3.11 percent from 3.18 percent.
What comes next
The revised figures replace the provisional estimates for FY26, and official national accounts are typically updated again as fuller data arrive. Pakistan's GDP growth for FY26 now stands at 3.65 percent, according to the PBS. Readers tracking the economy should watch the next quarterly and annual releases from the PBS for further changes.
