Pakistan is preparing to host a dedicated Pakistan investment forum on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, aiming to bring international capital into key domestic sectors. The initiative forms part of a broader government shift aimed at moving the economy away from reliance on foreign loans and aid toward direct commercial partnerships and international trade.

According to the Board of Investment (BOI) minister, high-level diplomatic engagements surrounding the summit present a valuable opportunity to present viable projects directly to visiting global delegations. Officials noted that the Chinese president is among the regional leaders expected to participate in the summit.

Shifting strategy from aid to trade

The initiative aligns with statements from Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, who emphasized that Pakistan is reorienting its external economic relations. The finance minister indicated that the country is prioritizing sustained trade and commercial ventures over emergency credit lines.

This structural pivot focuses on expanding business ties with long-standing economic partners, including China, Gulf nations, and the United States. Government economic planners intend to use bilateral platforms to attract capital into manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and trade logistics.

Regional roadshows and technology initiatives

Beyond the SCO summit arrangements, authorities are organizing targeted sector-specific gatherings. A Pakistan Tech Forum is scheduled to take place in November to showcase domestic digital enterprises and explore partnerships with regional technology firms.

In tandem with these plans, the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute has proposed running a series of investment promotion events across Pakistan. These regional roadshows are intended to connect local industries directly with regional supply chains and international financing.
