ChiniMandi reported on 12 October 2026 that the price of a wheat bag in Sindh had risen by Rs2,500. The report cites The Express Tribune and carries an ANI credit line. It said the increase had drawn criticism that the government had not held down food costs.
Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade and Industry chairman Zubair Ahmed Ghanghra said higher wheat and flour prices were making it harder for low- and middle-income families to manage. He asked the authorities to intervene so people could still buy essential food at rates they could afford.
Ghanghra said the government used to buy wheat from farmers with funds set aside in the provincial budget, and that those purchases had helped keep prices in check. He said ending that procurement had contributed to the rise. He asked for an inquiry into what was driving wheat and flour prices, and for action against hoarding and profiteering.
The report gives the size of the increase, not the new price of a bag. It does not say on which day the Rs2,500 was added.
