What Bilawal said in Karachi

At a Karachi memorial on 18 October, Pakistan Peoples Party chair Bilawal Bhutto Zardari alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had sworn he would refuse to confront militants. Speaking at an event marking nineteen years since the Karsaz attack, he said his party would carry that struggle if the provincial head stayed out of it.

He argued that Afridi’s reluctance to join the anti-militant push explained why the PPP backed a federal step already taken. He pledged that efforts against militants would keep going until Pakistan was rid of them, and he praised the armed forces for lives lost in that cause.

Emergency, Governor’s Rule and talks

His remarks also tied politics in Peshawar to security. He said opposition parties want Governor’s Rule and the provincial emergency to end, but that outcome, in his view, depends on them assisting the centre against militants. He urged rivals to talk with the federal government if they want those measures rolled back.

National unity, he stressed, is essential; without every side standing together, the country cannot prevail. He invited opponents to join a parliamentary panel on election rules that he has proposed, saying democratic bodies still need strengthening.

Economy, provinces and other points

Beyond security, he warned that Pakistan faces a historic economic squeeze and fretted that hardship may deepen instead of easing. On carving out new provinces or administrative units, he said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi already knows where the PPP and President Asif Ali Zardari stand. Fresh units, he argued, must follow constitutional and legal routes, and he asked why areas with existing consensus are still waiting.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Bilawal ne kaha ke KP ke CM Sohail Afridi ne qasam li thi ke woh dehshat gardon se nahi larenge. Unhon ne party ko is jang mein aage aane ki baat ki. Emergency aur Governor Rule khatam karne ke liye opposition ko centre ke saath mil kar kaam karna hoga. Aam logon ke liye yeh baat amn, siyasat aur mehngai ke bohran se judi hui hai.
