The Counter-Terrorism Department says it arrested three suspected militants in two Karachi raids on Monday, with an intelligence agency alongside it. Dawn and ARY both carried the CTD account.
Security personnel seized two hand grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED, a homemade bomb) during the actions. According to a CTD spokesperson, investigators have formally registered three cases against the apprehended individuals as questioning continues regarding their local networks.
Raids conducted near Lasbela and Old Subzi Mandi
The first operation took place near Lasbela Chowk, where security forces apprehended two suspects identified as Sajid Yusuf and Shaukat Ali, also known as Shoki. Officials stated that both men belong to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Investigators alleged that the pair had been involved in targeted killings and attacks on Frontier Corps (FC) paramilitary vehicles in Balochistan.
CTD officials said the two BLA suspects remained in steady contact with their commanders and were preparing bomb attacks against law enforcement agencies and sensitive installations in the city. Two hand grenades were recovered directly from their possession during the raid.
In a second targeted raid near the Old Subzi Mandi area, CTD personnel arrested Dad Mohammed, also known by the alias Adil, who is accused of affiliation with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). A spokesperson said the suspect had undergone militant training in Afghanistan and was actively planning sabotage at key facilities. A locally assembled IED was recovered from his custody.
City security and legal proceedings
The CTD said it had registered three cases against the three men and that investigators were still looking for their local contacts.
