Sialkot Police have arrested nine people and registered 10 cases in a drive against fake number plates in Sialkot, targeting vehicles and motorcycles with fake, cloned, tampered or non-standard plates, and those without registration plates at all.

The operation is being carried out with Safe City and Traffic Police under District Police Officer Captain (Retd.) Dost Muhammad. A police spokesperson said motorcycles were also impounded as part of the action.

Where the cases were filed

Of the 10 cases, four were lodged at Kotwali Police Station, three at Neikapura, two at Rangpura and one at Badiana. The spread across several stations points to checks beyond a single neighbourhood.

Police described the effort as an intensified crackdown on plates that hide or disguise a vehicle’s real identity. Riders and drivers found with incomplete registration numbers, digits covered with tape, non-standard plates, or no plate at all were among those faced with action.

Why police say plates matter

The spokesperson said such violations can make it harder to identify vehicles and to investigate crime. The stated aims of the drive are to curb crime, protect citizens and ensure people follow registration rules.

Using fake number plates in Sialkot, or altering a plate so the digits cannot be read, is treated as a serious compliance failure because cameras and patrols rely on clear numbers to link a vehicle to its owner.

What police are asking the public to do

Police urged citizens to display complete and clearly visible registration numbers in the prescribed format. They also asked people not to conceal, alter or use unauthorised number plates, warning that those practices can lead to legal action.

Anyone who spots vehicle registration fraud—such as a cloned or taped plate—can report it to local police. Keeping a genuine, readable plate on a car or motorcycle remains the simplest way to stay clear of this crackdown.
