The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has concluded a four-month FIA crackdown on illegal visa agents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, resulting in the arrest of 190 suspects. According to a spokesperson for the FIA Islamabad Zone, the operation targeted individuals who were defrauding citizens by promising fake overseas employment and travel opportunities. During the course of these operations, officials recovered a total of Rs615.55 million from the accused parties.

Operations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

The crackdown was spearheaded by the Anti-Human Trafficking Circles (AHTC) in both cities. The Islamabad circle conducted the majority of the enforcement actions, arresting 120 suspects and recovering Rs411.05 million. Officials in the capital registered 875 separate cases against those involved in the scam.

In Rawalpindi, the AHTC arrested 70 suspects and recovered Rs204.5 million. The circle registered 668 cases during the four-month window. Combined, the two circles registered 1,543 cases, which averages to more than 12 legal proceedings initiated every day against illegal visa agents.

Protecting Citizens from Fraud

The FIA Islamabad Zone Director supervised the drive, which aimed to curb human trafficking and protect vulnerable citizens from losing their life savings to fraudulent agents. The agency noted that these agents often lure people with false promises of high-paying jobs abroad, only to disappear after receiving payment.

Following the successful recovery of funds and the high number of arrests, the FIA has advised the public to exercise extreme caution. The agency urged citizens to verify the credentials of any recruitment or travel agent before making payments or handing over original documents. Officials emphasized that reporting such illegal activities immediately helps the authorities take swift action against human trafficking networks.
