Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), the northern gas utility, has announced a temporary cut in gas supply in Islamabad overnight, tied to hookup work on a major route. The utility said the suspension will run from 9:00 pm on 19 October 2026 until 6:00 am on 20 October.

Households and businesses in the named pockets should plan for several hours without piped gas for cooking, geysers and other appliances. SNGPL framed the stoppage as a scheduled maintenance period and asked consumers to cooperate.

Which areas are affected

According to SNGPL, the list covers Sector G-7 Blue Area; the stretch from Ghouri Town to Faizabad Bypass Road service road east; Lahtrar Road from Khanna Pul to Burma Town; Sohan; Gulberg Town; Shakrial; Garden Town; and adjoining areas. Anyone living or working just outside those names should still check whether their street falls in the “adjoining” belt.

If your locality is not on that list, the company has not said the same overnight halt applies there. The notice is area-specific rather than a citywide outage.

Why the supply is stopping

SNGPL linked the gas supply disruption to a hookup on the major route—work that joins or reconnects a main line so the network can operate as planned. It did not publish further technical detail in the public alert beyond that reason and the maintenance framing.

The overnight window—nine hours from late evening into early morning—is when demand for cooking gas is often lower than at peak mealtimes, which may limit some inconvenience, though late dinners and early breakfasts will still be affected.

What residents are being asked to do

SNGPL advised people in the affected zones to make alternative arrangements for their gas needs and to take basic precautions so the shutdown causes less hassle. That typically means finishing essential cooking before 9:00 pm where possible, keeping backup options ready if you have them, and ensuring stove knobs are off before pressure returns after 6:00 am.

The company urged cooperation for the duration of the scheduled work. It did not, in this alert, set out a compensation scheme or a separate helpline script beyond the suspension notice itself.
