Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke by telephone on Thursday, 15 October, with Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. On the call, the two men compared notes on events in the region and beyond, and on issues that matter to both countries, Gaza and Palestine among them. Iraq will host the OIC Council of Ministers on 17-18 October, and the ministers used the call to go through the agenda and the strategy for that session.
Gaza and the regional picture
Pakistan's foreign minister and his Turkish counterpart used the call to compare views on developments in the region and further afield, and on matters of mutual interest. The situation in Gaza and Palestine was part of that exchange.
The OIC meeting set for Iraq
The same conversation turned to the OIC Council of Ministers, the gathering of foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. That body is where member states coordinate on political issues they hold in common. The session is due in Iraq on 17 and 18 October, and working through the agenda and the two countries' approach was the practical part of the call.
In plain terms, close coordination means the two governments stay in touch directly and also work together when a larger group of countries meets. The larger meeting they named is the OIC session in Iraq. Thursday's contact was that telephone call, on 15 October, two days before the session's 17 October start.
Dar joined the call as deputy prime minister and foreign minister. Fidan joined as Türkiye's foreign minister. Both ministers put weight on staying closely aligned, so that goals they share are carried forward in one-to-one dealings and in joint work at international meetings.
