Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has opened a new online system that lets residents apply for an Islamabad driving license online for learner permits, renewals and duplicate licences without visiting traffic offices, with renewed and duplicate cards sent to their homes by courier.
An ITP official said on Sunday that the step followed directions from Inspector General of Police Islamabad Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, aiming to offer modern, convenient and time-saving licensing services. Under the new arrangement, the full application process can be completed online instead of at Traffic Headquarters or police facilitation centres.
What you can do on the ITP portal
Applicants can use Islamabad Traffic Police’s official portal at dlims.islamabadpolice.gov.pk to register and submit requests for learner driving permits, licence renewals and duplicate licences if a card is lost or damaged. The official said the online route is intended to replace routine counter visits for these services.
Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad Kainat Azhar Khan described the move as an important step toward better public facilitation and easier access to driving licence services. She said ITP was using technology to raise service quality, with public convenience and efficient delivery as top priorities.
Home delivery and the 19 October change
Renewed and duplicate driving licences will be sent to applicants’ residential addresses through TCS courier service, so people no longer need repeated trips to traffic police offices to collect those cards. That driving license home delivery covers renewed and duplicate licences; the sources describe learner permits as obtainable online but do not say those permits are couriered in the same way.
From Monday, 19 October, learner-permit, renewal and duplicate applications will no longer be available at Traffic Headquarters Faizabad and other Islamabad Police Khidmat Centres, because the process is shifting fully to the online platform. Residents who still rely on walk-in counters for those tasks will need to use the portal instead.
What applicants should enter carefully
CTO Kainat Azhar Khan advised citizens to enter complete names, correct residential addresses and active mobile phone numbers when filing online. She said accurate details were essential for timely delivery, and that incorrect or incomplete addresses could cause delays.
For anyone planning an Islamabad driving license online apply for renewal or a duplicate, checking the address and phone number before submission is the practical safeguard the traffic police have stressed. The same care applies when registering for a learner permit through the portal.
