What changed for theft cases
The LESCO smart meter price recovered from people caught diverting power or interfering with single-phase meters is now the full Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) amount: Rs14,400 on the demand notice. AMI means digital meters that record use in finer detail and link more closely to the utility’s billing systems. Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), the city and surrounding areas’ distribution company, used to recover only a static-meter sum in the same situations.
That older figure was Rs5,500. The gap between the two notices is Rs8,900. Officials have already begun sending the higher AMI-based notices instead of the static-meter ones.
Who faces the Rs14,400 notice
The tougher recovery applies where inspectors find single-phase meters altered or misused to take unpaid electricity. In those files, the company lists an AMI smart single-phase unit on the notice rather than a conventional static device. Honest customers who never tamper with equipment are not the target of this switch; the higher lesco meter replacement charges sit inside enforcement against theft and meter abuse.
Why the jump matters on paper
Rs14,400 versus Rs5,500 is a large step up for anyone issued a notice after a theft or tampering finding. For households already facing unpaid-unit assessments and other penalties, the meter line alone adds almost nine thousand rupees more than before. LESCO’s move aligns recovery with the hardware it now installs when meters are swapped after such offences.
Aasan alfaaz mein
LESCO ab bijli chori ya meter kharab karne walon se naya smart meter ki poori qeemat leti hai. Pehle static meter par roughly panch hazar paanch sau rupay lagte thay. Ab AMI meter ke liye demand notice mein chudah hazar char sau rupay likhe ja rahe hain. Jo log meter se ched chaad nahi karte, un par yeh naya rate apply nahi hota.
