NADRA issues Sunday alert on fake licence sites

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Pakistan’s national ID and registration body, on Sunday warned citizens applying for civilian arms licences to treat unverified websites with caution. Officials said people should check the web address carefully before they share money or identity details.

The alert follows accounts that residents in Punjab were being cheated through fake websites that claimed to help with arms licence applications. Those sites, according to the reports NADRA cited, charged very high fees and put sensitive personal information at risk of misuse.

What applicants are being asked to do

NADRA officials said anyone submitting an application or making a payment must first confirm they are on the official website. Doing so, they said, is meant to reduce the chance of financial fraud and identity theft — the theft or misuse of personal documents and data.

The authority asked the public to use only official, verified platforms for every licence-related step. It also urged anyone who encounters a fraudulent online service to report it to the relevant law enforcement agencies.

Why the warning matters in Punjab

Civilian arms licences involve formal paperwork and personal records. When that process moves online, a wrong URL can look similar to a real government page. NADRA’s message is that a convincing-looking form or payment screen is not proof that a site is genuine.

Applicants who have already used an uncertain website may want to stop further payments, keep records of any transfers, and approach police or cybercrime units if they suspect fraud. Sources do not name specific fake domains or list official URLs; NADRA’s guidance is to verify the address through trusted official channels before proceeding.

Aasan alfaaz mein

NADRA ne Sunday ko warning di hai ke civilian arms licence ke liye fake websites se bachain. Punjab mein kuch sites zyada fee le kar logon ko dhoka de rahi hain aur unka personal data khatre mein daal rahi hain. Application ya payment se pehle official website ka address zaroor check karein. Sirf verified platform use karein, aur agar fraud lage to police ya law enforcement ko report karein.
