ISLAMABAD: The government has cut the petrol price by Rs3.93 a litre for three days from 17 October 2026, while leaving high-speed diesel unchanged.

Under the revised ex-depot rates, motor spirit — commonly called petrol — will sell at Rs386.30 a litre, down from Rs390.23. High-speed diesel (HSD) remains at Rs396.96 a litre. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which regulates oil and gas prices, issued the revision under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism, according to a Petroleum Division press release and notification.

What changed in the new rates

The cut applies from 17 to 19 October 2026, covering the weekend. That means pump prices for petrol and diesel under this notification are set for those three days rather than for a full fortnight.

A detailed notification says the shift mainly reflects a lower import cost for petrol, which declined to Rs275.56 a litre from Rs279.45. The import cost of HSD was stable at Rs289.40 a litre. Government levies and fixed profit margins were kept largely steady on both products.

Both fuels still carry a Petroleum Levy of Rs80 a litre and a Climate Support Levy of Rs5 a litre. Dealer and oil marketing company margins remain Rs9.98 and Rs7.87 a litre respectively. The Inland Freight Equalisation Margin (IFEM) — a charge used to even out transport costs across the country — stays at Rs7.93 a litre for petrol and Rs4.71 a litre for HSD.

Why OGRA revised the prices

OGRA said the change was driven by global market developments, including movements in Platts rates (international benchmark prices for refined fuels), premiums and other incidental costs.

Over the last seven days, the average refined petrol price was reported at USD 124.39 per barrel, compared with USD 127.24 per barrel on 16 October. HSD’s average was put at USD 108.54 per barrel, up only a cent from USD 108.53. Those international moves fed into the local ex-depot calculation even as domestic levies stayed fixed.

What motorists should expect at the pump

Petrol users will see a modest relief for the three-day window; diesel users — including many public transport and freight operators — will see no change in the notified HSD rate. Fresh notifications usually follow after this period ends, so households and businesses should treat Rs386.30 and Rs396.96 as the current reference prices only through 19 October 2026.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Petrol 17 se 19 October tak 3.93 rupay sasta ho gaya hai aur ab Rs386.30 litre milay ga. Diesel ki qeemat waisi hi Rs396.96 litre hai, is mein koi kami nahi. Ye rate weekend ke teen din ke liye hain; us ke baad naya notification aana mumkin hai. Jo log petrol use karte hain un ka thoda kharcha kam ho sakta hai, diesel walon ke liye abhi koi farq nahi.
