Around half of the flour available in Punjab is subsidised, and a 10-kilogram bag made from government wheat is being sold at a fixed Rs1,100, Director General Food Punjab Amjad Hafeez said on Friday.
Hafeez said the provincial Food Department is working to keep quality flour available without interruption at prescribed prices. He said flour mills in Punjab are supplying the 10kg government-wheat bags at that fixed rate.
Where supply is being watched
According to a provincial government handout, Hafeez said flour supply and availability are being monitored regularly in Lahore and other districts, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur.
He noted that Lahore takes a comparatively larger share of flour supplies than other districts. Steps are also being taken, he said, so that supplies in each district match local population needs.
Digital checks on mills and distribution
Hafeez said the food department is using digital monitoring to improve transparency and efficiency in the flour distribution system. The performance of relevant authorities and flour mills is also being tracked to keep flour available in the market.
He said the Punjab government remains committed to consumer relief by keeping quality flour at prescribed rates and maintaining an uninterrupted supply across the province.
