Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) personnel recovered 60 kilograms of hashish from an ambulance in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, the agency said on October 14. The drugs were concealed in secret compartments inside the vehicle. The operation was based on intelligence and took place near Sona Khan Chowk, where the agency arrested a suspect it described as a key figure in an inter-provincial drug smuggling network.
The seizure and the arrest
An ANF spokesperson said early investigations point to the consignment being carried from Mastung to Quetta. The spokesperson credited the interception to sustained surveillance and careful operational planning. A case has been filed against the detained man under narcotics legislation, which covers drug offences.
Concern over emergency vehicles and next steps
The spokesperson also said that using an ambulance for drug transport was a worrying sign for emergency services. The ANF had earlier recovered drugs hidden in an ambulance in Shikarpur, Sindh, so this is not the first case of its kind. The agency added that its anti-narcotics work will go on nationwide, with the aim of reducing drug trafficking.
The available information does not name the suspect or describe the wider network, and it does not say whether further arrests have been made. Hashish is a cannabis-derived drug, and the case remains at an early stage.
