Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur has removed 1,184 people from its LLB academic rolls, treating their credentials as a fake LLB degree problem after investigators concluded the entries were never put into the examination system through a lawful route. A campus notice dated 16 October 2026 says related marksheets, transcripts and degree papers no longer count as documents the university lawfully issued.
The split in the cancelled cohort is clear: 658 names sat on the older three-year LLB path, and 526 on the five-year path. Affiliated law colleges named with the affected candidates include campuses serving Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Kashmore.
How the inquiry unfolded
The Syndicate set the process in motion at its 92nd sitting on 11 April 2026. A committee then combed official examination files for three-year LLB pass years 2016, 2017 and 2018, plus the five-year batch that finished in 2017. It cross-checked those files against material held by affiliated law colleges and flagged entries that appeared to have been loaded into the system outside proper authority.
In July, SALU published a final call on its website and in the national press. Anyone named was given 15 days to lodge proof that their record was genuine. After weighing those replies and papers from the colleges, the committee held that the disputed files were not part of the university’s lawful academic archive.
What the notice does next
The university’s order treats every exam result, transcript, provisional certificate, degree or similar paper built on those files as void from the start. Principals of the linked law colleges have been told. Copies have also gone to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) — the federal body that oversees universities — the Pakistan Bar Council, and the Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan bar councils, so professional regulators can act on their own rules.
Timeline: what has happened so far
- 2016–2018 (three-year) and 2017 (five-year): Batches later reviewed for irregular LLB entries.
- 11 April 2026: Syndicate, at its 92nd meeting, authorises the inquiry path.
- July 2026: Final public notice; 15 days for candidates to submit proof.
- 16 October 2026: Formal notice cancels 1,184 records and alerts HEC and bar councils.
Reports say this is not SALU’s first clean-up of this kind: about 1,280 LLB credentials were cancelled last year. Separately, reports also note that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) opened a case last year against 58 Capital Development Authority staff over forged qualifications, and that HEC had earlier been told to recheck degrees nationwide — a reminder that fake LLB degrees and other forged papers remain a wider Pakistani concern.
