The provincial government has initiated disciplinary proceedings against multiple officers and staff members following irregularities connected to the Sindh food department wheat release and procurement mechanisms. Sindh Food Department Minister Makhdoom Mehboob uz Zaman ordered strict punishments, including dismissals, compulsory retirements, and demotions, in cases regarding the misappropriation of official grain reserves and the unlawful distribution of gunny bags.
Authorities launched the disciplinary push after administrative inquiries identified lapses in grain handling, supervisory failure, and the theft of public supplies in several districts.
Dismissals and corruption referrals
Among the most severe penalties, Krishan Lal, a food supervisor and in-charge of the Provincial Reserve Centre (PRC) in Mithi, Tharparkar, was dismissed from service after an inquiry determined his involvement in the misappropriation of government wheat. His case has also been forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Establishment for criminal proceedings and recovery of state funds.
Similarly, Food Supervisor Talib Hussain Channa was dismissed from service for his role in the illegal allocation of bardana, the official gunny bags used for harvesting and grain procurement. His file has also been submitted to anti-corruption authorities to recover financial losses suffered by the provincial exchequer. In Larkana district, Arif Hussain Abro, an inspector and in-charge of PRC Badeh, was removed from service over grain misappropriation.
Retirements and demotions across districts
Supervisory officials were also disciplined for failing to maintain oversight during the Sindh food department wheat release and inventory management cycles. Abdul Sattar Memon, the former District Food Controller for Tharparkar, received a major penalty of compulsory retirement after failing to supervise staff at the Mithi facility.
Ghulam Farooq Kaleri, an Assistant Food Controller, was also awarded compulsory retirement for his involvement in stock misappropriation. In Badin district, Assistant Food Controller Abdul Jabbar Memon was demoted to the lower rank of Food Grain Inspector for a period of three years over stock discrepancies.
Provincial authorities noted that punitive actions against departmental corruption are aimed at safeguarding strategic grain reserves and ensuring fair distribution during administrative operations.
