A Swat CTD operation early on Thursday ended with three wanted militants dead, while two other suspects got away, officials said. The action rested on intelligence and was carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department, known as the CTD, a specialised police unit, working alongside district police in Swat, a valley district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

What officials say happened

The operation took place in the Sakhadob area, which falls under the Kanju police station. A CTD spokesperson gave the account: the suspects fired on the police party as it approached, and security personnel returned fire. Three bodies were later found inside a house on the site.

Their names were given as Abdullah, Mansoor Ali and Ghufranullah. Identity documents carried by the men listed Swat district as their home, officials added.

Weapons, alleged links and reaction

Police seized three Kalashnikov rifles, six magazines and some ammunition during the operation. The team also recovered a gas cylinder, cooking utensils, a diary and a map referring to Shikardara police station.

The CTD spokesperson linked the three men to a network headed by commander Muzaffar, also called Khalid, within the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan group, known as the TTP. The spokesperson added that the men were tied to several attacks this year, including gunfire at Nemat Ali Khan's home and guest room, an attack involving Afzal Khan Gujar, and the killing of a man named Saleemullah, also known as Sajid, in Nilagram.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, and the CTD's Additional Inspector General praised the personnel for their courage, professionalism and dedication. They also said the province would keep using all available means to root out militancy and safeguard people and their belongings.

The official statements do not say whether the two suspects who escaped have been traced or whether more operations are planned. Readers should watch for further official updates on the two men and on the Swat CTD operation as a whole.
