1Password for AI agents is a new tool that lets an AI assistant sign in to a person's online accounts without the assistant ever receiving the password. The product, 1Password for Agents, was launched on Thursday by the password manager. Before a login goes ahead, the user must approve it, and 1Password enters the login details itself, so the assistant can finish tasks such as bookings or subscription changes without holding the secret.
Why AI agents need a safer way to sign in
AI agents are programs that carry out online jobs for people, and many of those jobs require logging in to websites and apps. Giving an assistant a password, however, creates a real risk, because copies can be saved in places the user has no way of managing. 1Password says its tool is designed to keep the password hidden from the AI at all times.
How the approval process works
1Password for AI agents follows a short sequence. First, the agent presents a digital token to 1Password, which checks who the agent is. The user then gets a notification about the attempt and may accept or decline it. If the user accepts, 1Password enters the password itself, so the agent never sees it, and the same arrangement can apply across several websites within one session.
Which assistants are supported, and what comes next
At present, the tool supports a number of AI assistants. These include Claude Duet from Anthropic, ChatGPT Work and Dots from OpenAI, Grok Bot, Meta's Muse, and agents from Town, a startup. 1Password says it is working with other companies to bring in more, and it intends to extend support over time.
1Password says it secures over 1.5 billion passwords for customers and works with more than 180,000 businesses. Its chief technology officer, Nancy Wang, argues that the sector needs safeguards designed around autonomous software rather than people alone.
The launch comes as concern grows over AI agents acting inside people's accounts. A report published the same day said U.S. banks have begun spotting automated activity in customer accounts, yet most of them cannot yet tell whether the customer requested it. A Chase spokesperson advised customers not to disclose their login details to anyone.
Aasan alfaaz mein
1Password ne naya tool launch kiya hai jiske zariye AI assistants aapke online accounts mein login kar sakte hain, lekin aapka password unhe nazar nahi aata. Har login ki koshish ko pehle aapko approve karna hota hai, aur approval ke baad password 1Password khud enter karta hai. Iska matlab hai ke password AI ke paas copy nahi hota, jo accounts ki hifazat ke liye ahem hai. Phir bhi kisi ko bhi password na batayen, chahe wo insaan ho ya AI tool.
