Anthropic's new AI agent, Claude Duet, is aimed at professionals and small business owners, and the company is releasing it as a "research preview." According to Anthropic, it can run as a standalone app on iOS and Android, or through Claude on the web. The announcement came on 21 October 2026, and Anthropic positioned the product against rival agents from Meta and OpenAI, known as Muse and Dots.
How Claude Duet is designed to work
Claude Duet is built around Claude Opus 5.5, the model behind the agent. Anthropic says each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across a user's connected apps. Throughout the day it keeps watch on those apps and messages the user only when something needs attention.
Users can also hand it tasks of different sizes. Anthropic gave examples ranging from scheduling meetings to building dashboards with many tools, creating financial or sales forecasts, prototyping, and building web apps. The agent draws on memory, skills and connected apps from Claude, and it has a virtual machine with a browser that it can use to finish work.
Approvals, safety limits and early status
Before a major step, such as sending a payment or deleting something, Claude Duet asks the user to approve it first. Because the agent may handle sensitive information, Anthropic added a new classifier and a dedicated safety system prompt. Anthropic said these are meant to reject requests to share the strictest tier of information, such as credit card numbers.
Anthropic describes Claude Duet as an "early version" that may still misread a conversation thread or misjudge what is urgent. The company also said the agent is not as strong at personal errands, such as booking tickets.
Who can join the waitlist
Interested users can join a waitlist to try Claude Duet. Under the terms described, access is limited to Pro or Max subscribers in the United States, so the waitlist does not currently cover readers outside the US. Because the product is still a research preview, Anthropic's new AI agent may change as the company gathers feedback.
