This Meezan Bank update centres on a large upgrade to the bank's payments systems. Meezan Bank, listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange as MEBL, has moved its entire payments business to SmartVista, a platform provided by BPC. The move covers 7.5 million active cards and all of the bank's merchants, and the bank said operations continued through the switch.

What the migration covers

The change brings the bank's payment operations onto a single platform instead of several separate systems. According to the announcements, the platform now handles card payments, point-of-sale (POS) transactions at shops, e-commerce, and QR payments, where customers pay by scanning a code. It also runs payment gateway services, which connect online sellers to payment processing, along with instant payments and fraud management.

For shoppers and businesses, these are the everyday channels where a payment either goes through or does not. The sources do not say whether Meezan Bank cards holders need to take any action, or whether fees, limits or app features will change.

Scale and capacity

The bank and BPC gave figures for the platform's capacity. It can process more than 1,500 transactions per second during peak periods. Meezan Bank also handles around 2 million Raast transactions every day, and it supports a network of more than 100,000 QR codes. Raast is Pakistan's instant payment system. These figures came from the announcement, and neither source offered an independent check of them.

Statements from the bank and BPC

Faiz ur Rehman, Group Head of Information Technology at Meezan Bank, said the migration would support continued growth in the bank's card business, merchant services, digital payments and Raast. He said the bank's internal teams and BPC kept operations running throughout the transition. Ali Imran Khan, Chief Information Officer at the bank, said the move strengthens the digital payments infrastructure and supports future growth.

Furrukh Ali-Baig, BPC's Managing Director for Pakistan, Nepal and Iraq, said the SmartVista platform offers processing capacity, fraud protection and instant payment tools. Taken together, the statements present the migration as a long-term infrastructure step. The announcements did not set out any further phases or a timetable for additional changes.
