Pakistan will use the World Bank IMF meetings in Bangkok to press for investment, trade and closer economic ties, with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb leading a programme of more than 60 official meetings. The gathering runs from 12 October to 18 October 2026. Aurangzeb is travelling to the Thai capital to set out how the economy is performing, which reforms are under way, and where foreign capital could go.
Islamabad wants the week to show that stabilisation is holding and that the next phase should rest on exports, private business and fresh capital. Officials also want easier entry to global bond markets, stronger ties with development lenders, and faster work on economic change. No new loan size or interest charge was attached to the schedule.
What Aurangzeb will take to Bangkok
In the Thai capital, Aurangzeb is due to sit with senior figures at the IMF, the International Monetary Fund, which lends to countries under external payment stress, and at the World Bank Group. Separate sessions are set with the IFC, the arm that backs private companies, and with MIGA, which provides guarantees when investors cross borders. Those conversations are meant to cover the economic picture, the pace of reforms, room for private enterprise, and the shape of future cooperation.
He is also expected at a session hosted by the IMF's managing director. Finance ministers will be there, as will central-bank governors and the heads of regional lenders. The guest list is drawn from MENAP, the grouping that includes Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Middle East and North Africa. The World Bank IMF meetings also put several other development lenders on his card.
Who sits across the table
Named counterparts include AIIB, which finances infrastructure in Asia; the OPEC development fund; the Saudi Fund for Development; and the Islamic corporation that finances trade. Also listed are JICA, Japan's cooperation agency; ECO's trade and development lender; ESCAP, a UN commission for the Asia-Pacific; and IOM, the migration organisation.
One-to-one talks are arranged with China, and Saudi Arabia is on the same bilateral list. Türkiye and Iran follow, then Britain and the host, Thailand, with each aimed at tighter links on trade, investment and development. Aurangzeb will also call on the US Treasury to discuss economic cooperation, Pakistan's reform agenda and Islamabad's investment priorities.
Investors, ratings and the public message
A large share of the Bangkok diary is kept for investors. The minister is due at seminars, at forums for sovereign borrowers, and at roundtables with major banks. Institutions named include Mashreq, Ajman Bank and Barclays, then MUFG, Jefferies and MSCI. Also listed are Bank of America, Deutsche Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank, plus Standard Chartered, Citi, JP Morgan, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Alvarez & Marsal.
The meetings offer a slot to describe macroeconomic gains, reform priorities, renewed market access and openings for investors. A separate sitting with Alibaba's international commerce arm will cover online trade and digital-sector investment.
On the forum circuit, Aurangzeb is booked for a G-24 gathering of finance chiefs and central bankers, for the V20's 17th ministerial dialogue, and for the 16th meeting of the finance ministers' climate coalition. The grid also includes a dialogue on jobs, the opening session of the Borrowers' Forum governing council, and the annual plenary. Policy panels will take up sovereign risk for countries that borrow in markets, and how a young population can be turned toward skills and jobs.
To make Pakistan's case to rating agencies, he will see Moody's, S&P Global and Fitch and walk them through economic results and the reform path. Briefings for international media are included, plus a policy talk at the Atlantic Council and another with Eurasia Group, centred on the outlook, stabilisation, reforms and the investment case.
Across the visit, Pakistan will try to show rebuilt stability, firmer fiscal and external cushions, and reforms that are being applied. The government also wants to spell out priorities on exports, investment, jobs, private business and wider access to finance.
