For the third Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20, Rawalpindi Police have placed around 6,000 personnel on security and traffic duty at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A police spokesperson said City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera directed the plan so the fixture would stay secure and traffic would keep moving. Rooftop snipers are included in the plan, and Safe City cameras plus other closed-circuit television are covering the stadium and the streets around it.
Officers, cameras and a control room
The spokesperson said senior officers were out checking where people were posted and briefing them on their duties. Patrols around the stadium include police mobile units, Elite Force personnel and Dolphin Squad teams. A special control room has been set up to watch the security plan as it runs.
The Elite Force is a specialised armed wing of the police, and the Dolphin Squad is a quick-response patrol unit. Safe City is a police camera network; other CCTV is being used with it. Together with the mobiles and the control room, they give commanders a view of the ground and the surrounding area.
Traffic while the match is on
Sukhera said the traffic measures were meant to help citizens and keep vehicles moving. He added that security and traffic arrangements would be closely monitored throughout the match. The spokesperson described the aim of the directions as foolproof security and a smooth flow of traffic for the Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20.
Anyone travelling to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and people who live or work nearby, should expect officers in large numbers on the surrounding roads. Because the same deployment handles both the crowd and the traffic, journeys near the ground may take longer on match day. Police have confirmed the size of the force, the snipers, the cameras, the control room and the patrol units. The account from police does not include a list of closed roads or a revised start time.
The arrangements described on 13 October were already being inspected, with senior officers briefing personnel who were on duty. Sukhera said that watch would carry on for the whole of the match. Fans still planning their journey should treat the police presence as already in place.
