Eighteen labourers at a marble mine in the Naal area, about 40 kilometres from Khuzdar city, were kidnapped on Sunday, police said. A large group of armed men entered the mine, held workers at gunpoint, and took 18 of them away, along with the son of the mine factory’s owner, officials said.

The abductors also opened fire on a worker who tried to run, officials added. The kidnapped labourers are locals from the Wadh and Naal areas of Balochistan.

How the raid unfolded

According to officials, the gunmen arrived in force at the mine premises and seized the workers under threat of weapons. While leaving, they also took a loader and two vehicles. The scale of the group and the removal of heavy equipment point to a planned operation rather than a brief hold-up, based on what police and officials have described.

No organisation has so far said it carried out the kidnapping.

Whose mine was targeted

Officials said the mine belongs to Sardar Alam Khan Bizenjo, son of Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, the tribal chief of the Bizenjo tribe. Aslam Bizenjo is linked with the National Party and has held ministerial posts in several Balochistan governments. That ownership detail places the incident in a known local tribal and political setting, though police have not publicly tied the motive to any named dispute.

Search and what comes next

Officials said security forces have launched a search operation in the area to find the abducted labourers. Families in Wadh and Naal will be waiting for word on the men’s safety and on whether the vehicles and loader can be recovered. Further official updates will depend on how the search develops.
