Pakistan International Airlines has nominated Adrian Hamilton — full name Adrian Hamilton Manns, the chief executive of Oman’s Salam Air — as its next PIA CEO. People familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he is expected to take charge by the end of October.

The same sources said security and other clearances are still being processed, which is why the appointment has not been formally announced. Until those steps are finished and an official notice is issued, the nomination should be treated as unfinished business rather than a completed handover.

Career path before the PIA nomination

Manns has led Salam Air, a Muscat-based low-cost airline, since July 2024. Before that he was president and chief executive of Kazakhstan’s Fly Arystan from April 2020 to July 2024, and founding CEO of the Africa-focused low-fare carrier flyafrica.com from 2012 to 2016.

He has also held senior commercial posts at IndiGo in India, South African Airways, Virgin Australia’s Pacific Blue and Indonesia’s Mandala Airlines. His airline career began at Air New Zealand in 1997. On his professional networking profile he presents himself as an airline turnaround specialist.

Most of that record is in starting or running budget carriers. PIA, by contrast, is a full-service national airline that for decades has faced operational inefficiencies, an ageing fleet, financial losses and political interference — problems any new chief would inherit.

Privatisation context and what comes next

The Adrian Hamilton PIA CEO nomination would be one of the first major leadership picks since the airline passed into private hands. An Arif Habib-led consortium took over management on 29 June 2026.

What happens next hinges on completing the clearances still in process and on a formal announcement. Travellers and staff should watch for an official confirmation before treating the change as final.
