Gas supply in Rawalpindi today will be temporarily switched off in several parts of the city and cantonment while Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL — the main gas utility in northern Pakistan) carries out pipeline work linked to the Peshawar Road underpass. An SNGPL spokesperson said the shutdown is needed to connect a section of the main gas pipeline as that construction continues.

Under the company’s schedule, the suspension begins at 8:30pm and runs through the night until 6am on 18 October. Households and shops on the listed routes should plan for no piped gas during that window.

Which Rawalpindi areas are affected

On Murree Road, both sides from Saddar to Faizabad are included. On Peshawar Road, the stretch between Golra Mor and Saddar is covered, along with Qasim Market, Westridge and other neighbourhoods along that corridor.

Gas supply will also remain suspended in areas along Adiala Road and GT Road. Residents who live just off these arteries should check whether their street falls within the utility’s notice, because feeder lines often share the same network segment.

Why SNGPL is cutting supply overnight

The utility tied the outage to pipeline work for the Peshawar Road underpass project. Connecting a main line section usually requires isolating pressure on that segment so crews can join pipes safely — which is why gas supply in Rawalpindi today is being paused overnight rather than left on at reduced pressure.

SNGPL has asked consumers in the affected localities to make alternative arrangements for cooking and hot water until service returns. The company said supply is expected to resume at 6am on 18 October under the announced timetable.

What households should do tonight

If your area is on the list, finish cooking before 8:30pm where possible, and keep a backup option ready for early morning use. Leave stove knobs closed while the line is dead so appliances do not release gas when pressure returns.

Anyone outside the named roads who still sees a drop in pressure should treat it as a possible spillover on shared lines and follow the same precautions until normal flow is confirmed after 6am.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Rawalpindi ke kai ilaqon mein aaj raat 8:30 baje se gas band ho gi. Yeh kaam Peshawar Road underpass ke liye pipeline jorne ki wajah se ho raha hai. Subah 6 baje (18 October) tak gas wapas aani chahiye. Cooking aur pani garam karne ka doosra intizam pehle se rakh lein.
