An armed clash between rival groups of the Jakhrani tribe has killed Shahmeer Sehwani-Jakhrani in Garhi Khairo, taking their feud's toll to 13. Reports say members of the Sanani and Sehwani communities shot at one another with sophisticated weapons in the area of Mohammadpur police station. The firing is linked to an alleged dispute over honour. Over the past several years, the same feud had already left 12 people dead.

Where the firing took place

The clash fell inside the Mohammadpur police station area of Garhi Khairo. Reports say the Sanani and Sehwani communities, rival groups within the Jakhrani tribe, fired at each other there.

Police reached the site after the killing. They took the body to Garhi Khairo hospital for a postmortem, a medical examination after death, and then handed it to the heirs.

Both sides still positioned

The clash did not close with a formal end to the confrontation. Both groups reportedly moved into positions in the areas associated with them. The unsettled part is what followed the death: the two sides were still in those positions, and police had neither registered a case nor made an arrest when these details were recorded.

People living near those positions have reason to be cautious. Reports place the groups on their own ground after the killing, and nothing yet shows that either side has been taken into custody.

How the toll reached 13

This was not the first life lost to the quarrel. Over several years the feud had already killed 12 people, and Shahmeer Sehwani-Jakhrani's death brings the figure to 13. The rivalry is tied to an alleged matter of honour between the two Jakhrani groups. The names of the earlier 12, and the dates on which they died, have not been stated.

The confirmed change is a rise of one in the toll. The groups at the centre of the fight remain the Sanani and Sehwani communities. Residents of Garhi Khairo now have a direct safety concern: police reached the scene and returned the body to the family after the hospital examination, yet no suspect was in custody. If the groups stay in position, the chance of further firing has not gone away.
