Security forces killed 12 fighters and lost a soldier while stopping a Kurram infiltration from Afghanistan, the military’s media wing said. Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, from Ghizer, was martyred in the exchange of fire on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram district. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif later praised the troops and offered condolences to his family, Business Recorder reported.

What the military reported

The details come from a news release by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the armed forces’ public affairs office, published by Business Recorder. ISPR said the group trying to cross comprised "Khwarij", its term for militants it classifies as terrorists, and Afghan Taliban fighters. Troops who were already on high alert blocked them in heavy firing, and the military said twelve of the fighters were killed.

ISPR added that Afghan Taliban posts fired in support of the Khwarij during the crossing attempt. The release credited "skilful and precise engagement by vigilant troops" for the outcome.

The military said the clash bears out Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban administration has not kept armed groups off Afghan soil and has instead enabled cross-border terrorism. It also said that administration has failed to meet international counter-terrorism obligations. Both points are ISPR’s assessment. The Business Recorder reports used here do not include a reply from Kabul.

The soldier who was killed

Naib Subedar is a junior commissioned rank in the Pakistan Army. Hidayat Aman, aged 40, lived in Ghizer district. ISPR said he confronted the infiltrators and was martyred in the firefight.

Business Recorder used the same name and rank when it reported the chief minister’s tribute. The available copy gives no further detail about his unit or his surviving relatives.

Maryam Nawaz’s message

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab’s chief minister, paid tribute to the security forces for foiling the Kurram infiltration and for the deaths of 12 terrorists, Business Recorder said. She honoured Hidayat Aman and conveyed condolences to his family. The story does not carry a full quotation from her, and it does not mention any official compensation.

What follows on the border

ISPR said that after the Kurram infiltration was stopped, troops began a sanitisation operation, meaning a sweep for anyone still in the area. The release spoke of searching for any other "Indian sponsored" Kharji there. That is the military’s allegation; these reports do not cite independent confirmation or a response from India.

The same statement said the counter-terrorism effort Azm-e-Istehkam will go on at full pace. The name refers to a campaign approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, Pakistan’s overarching internal-security policy. ISPR said the forces and law-enforcement agencies would keep working to end what it called foreign-sponsored terrorism, and that they remained committed to holding the frontier.
