Airport sources at Allama Iqbal International Airport said on Tuesday that five departures for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had been cancelled. Lahore flights cancelled today are those Gulf services, and the sources said the reasons had not been officially confirmed. The cities named so far are Riyadh, Dammam and Ras Al Khaimah. Ticket holders were advised to check with their airline before leaving for the airport.
Which Lahore departures were dropped
The flights named by airport sources were a private airline’s XY318 to Riyadh, Saudi Arabian Airlines services SV743 and RX676, and Pakistan International Airlines flight PK725 to Dammam. A Ras Al Khaimah departure was cancelled too. One account called it Airblue flight G9 855; another recorded the number as G9855. The other four flight numbers, and the three destination cities, are the same in both accounts.
Reports say that on the previous day a private airline had cancelled XY318, F3656 and P9580 from Lahore to Riyadh, and XY884 to Dammam, citing tensions in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. That list was presented as Lahore’s part of a larger wave of Pakistan-to-Riyadh cancellations, not as a second confirmed roster for Tuesday. Because XY318 appears in both lists, passengers with that number should ask the airline which operating day the ticket belongs to.
Wider disruption to Saudi airports
Gulf flights cancelled today are only the Lahore slice of a larger break in travel. Reports say at least 34 flights from Pakistan to Riyadh were cancelled the previous day after Saudi authorities extended the closure of King Khalid International Airport by another 24 hours. Of that total, Lahore was put at 12, Karachi at six, Islamabad at four and Peshawar at two.
The same account said Madinah, Jeddah and Dammam airports, used by large numbers of Pakistani workers and pilgrims, had also been severely disrupted. Dammam Airport had resumed operations after a six-hour closure, it said, yet the schedule of flights between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia remained uncertain.
The explanation is not settled. Airport sources said the Tuesday cancellations came amid regional tensions, that the reasons were not officially confirmed, and that further details were awaited. Another account said the cancellations followed repeated attacks by Houthi rebels on Saudi airports over the past several days, and referred to rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and Gulf states. Until a new time is issued, Lahore flights cancelled today should be treated as not operating.
