Muhammad Ali, a student aged eight, has been killed near a primary school in Ruknpur, a village on the outskirts of Tibba Sultanpur in Mailsi. Initial reports say the child died in the gunfire and that the person who opened fire fled the scene. No other casualty has been mentioned.
Panic at the school
Children and teachers who were present at the school panicked after the shooting. Sadness spread through the Mailsi area once it became clear that the young student had died. The first accounts do not name the accused, and they give no reason for the firing.
Police search and the hospital
Police came to Ruknpur after they were told about the killing. They collected the body, held it in their custody and then took it to Tibba Sultanpur Hospital. The investigation is open, and officers are still searching for the person who fled.
Families in Mailsi who use that primary school now have an accused person still at large. They also have no explanation of why the shots were fired.
