A polio booster campaign will be held in Peshawar and Khyber districts from October 26 to 31, according to a statement issued by the office of the commissioner of Peshawar division. The campaign is aimed at eligible children from four months to under 10 years of age.
How the vaccine will be given
During the campaign, eligible children will receive an Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV), a form of polio vaccine that uses killed virus, delivered through a needle-free jet injector. The statement said vaccination will take place at Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) centres, outreach sites and schools.
Administrative preparations
A high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Captain (retd) Khalid Mahmood discussed arrangements for the polio booster campaign, and representatives of the relevant departments attended. The commissioner pledged full administrative support for the campaign's success and directed departments to ensure effective coordination and carry out all necessary measures. The statement did not give the number of children targeted or the number of vaccination teams.
