Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil has urged deeper PTV and CMG cooperation, including joint documentaries, as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of friendship. Speaking in Islamabad on CGTN Urdu's programme "Top View", he said expanded media work could strengthen bilateral ties and bring people in both countries closer.

Call for practical media work

Khalil said Memoranda of Understanding and close institutional links already exist, and these should turn into joint projects across fields, with documentary production among the priorities. An official press release issued by China Media Group (CMG) on Friday carried his remarks. He described the 75-year Pakistan-China relationship as a model for the world, and said both state-run and private media play an important part in sustaining it.

He argued that coordinated work between PTV and CMG could make strategic communication more effective and deepen mutual understanding. That CMG PTV partnership, he suggested, would help move formal agreements into visible content for audiences in both countries.

CPEC, digital media and cultural exchange

Highlighting the media's role around the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)—the flagship Pakistan-China economic project—Khalil said print, electronic and digital outlets had helped the public follow its importance, progress and benefits. On digital platforms, he stressed timely authentic information, spotting fake news and limiting misinformation. He said the Digital Communication Department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was already working to counter false claims and share accurate facts.

On culture, he said exchanges of heritage and traditions could draw the two peoples closer. He also cited Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar's proposal to invite Chinese social media influencers to Pakistan so they can experience the country's culture, language and cuisine—steps he said could widen awareness and people-to-people contact.

Trust and the road ahead

Khalil said Pakistan-China relations rest on mutual trust and cooperation: China has backed Pakistan in difficult periods, while Pakistan has supported China in diplomacy. He expressed confidence that wider PTV and CMG cooperation would reinforce the long friendship, understanding and links between ordinary people on both sides.
