Overnight outage for Shershah pipeline work

Parts of Karachi will go without piped gas for 11 hours this weekend while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the utility that supplies natural gas in southern Pakistan, carries out maintenance on a major pipeline. SSGC said the shutdown runs from 10pm on Saturday, 17 October, to 9am on Sunday, 18 October.

The work centres on a 24-inch Qatar mainline in the Shershah area. The company framed the stoppage as a scheduled interruption linked to that repair, not an unplanned fault.

When supply stops — and what if it runs late

SSGC said the window was chosen for a period when domestic gas is already suspended. That timing is meant to limit how many households notice a fresh cut during normal cooking hours.

The company also cautioned that if the job stretches past 9am Sunday, some localities may then report low gas pressure even after the formal outage ends. Residents in those zones should treat any weak flame or slow stove after the deadline as a possible after-effect of the maintenance, not necessarily a separate citywide failure.

Areas on the low-pressure watch list

SSGC named several places that may feel reduced pressure if the work overruns. In Baldi Town, it listed Ittehad Town, Saeedabad, Naval Colony, Musharraf Colony and Mawach Goth.

In Orangi Town, the list includes Gulshan-e-Bahar Colony, Gulshan-e-Zia Colony, Sector 16, Ghaziabad, Altaf Nagar, Mehran City and Ramzan Goth. The Site Industrial Area is also included. Factories and workshops there that rely on piped gas may need contingency plans for early Sunday if pressure stays weak.

Apology and what consumers can do

SSGC apologised for inconvenience during the maintenance. Households in the named localities should plan cooking and hot water around the 10pm–9am window, keep an eye on pressure on Sunday morning, and report lasting problems through SSGC’s usual complaint channels once the scheduled period has ended.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Karachi ke kuch ilaqon mein gas Saturday raat 10 baje se Sunday subah 9 baje tak band rahegi. SSGC Shershah mein bari pipeline ki marammat kar rahi hai. Agar kaam late ho jaye to Baldi Town, Orangi Town aur Site ke kuch areas mein pressure kam ho sakta hai. Cooking aur pani pehle se plan kar lein.
