Rawalpindi courier theft hits over 50 passports with visas

A private courier bag sent from Karachi to a travel agent was emptied in Rawalpindi; police at Banni have registered a case as travellers face delayed departures.

More than 50 stolen passports in Rawalpindi were taken from a private courier company’s delivery bag, leaving dozens of travellers uncertain about overseas departures and jobs. The passports carried foreign visas, including for Saudi Arabia and other countries, and formed part of a consignment sent from Karachi to a travel agent.

What was in the courier bag

Besides the passports, the bag held important documents, mobile phones, parcels and other valuables belonging to several citizens. The theft therefore reaches beyond one set of travellers: other people’s property was also inside the same delivery.

Those whose passports went missing had, according to accounts of the case, spent millions of rupees collectively to obtain visas and secure employment abroad. Losing the documents now puts those travel and work plans at risk until replacements and fresh clearances can be arranged.

Police case and what is known so far

Police registered a case at Banni Police Station on the complaint of a courier company representative and launched an investigation. Material linked to the case — including a copy of the first information report (FIR), photographs said to show a suspect, and copies of the stolen passports — has reportedly surfaced, though officials have not publicly confirmed every detail of that material.

The episode has also drawn attention to how sensitive travel papers move through private courier networks. Passports and visas are high-value identity documents; when they travel in bulk through ordinary delivery bags, a single theft can disrupt many people’s plans at once.

Assistance and next steps

Affected citizens have complained that they have not received adequate assistance from the courier company or from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the federal body that handles many passport- and immigration-related crimes. The accounts available so far do not include a reply from either organisation.

For now, the practical path for victims runs through the police investigation at Banni, whatever recovery or documentation steps the courier firm offers, and the separate processes needed to replace passports and visas. Until those steps advance, overseas employment and travel dates remain uncertain for the people whose papers were in the bag.

The stolen passports in Rawalpindi case remains under investigation. Families waiting on Saudi and other visas will be watching for recovery of the documents or clear guidance on how to reapply without losing the money and time already spent.

Jin logon ke passport gayab hain, unke bahir jane aur naukri ke plans ruk sakte hain jab tak naye papers na ban jayein.
