Gold fell by Rs3,000 per tola in the local market on Wednesday, to Rs437,836 per tola. The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association put the 10-gram price at Rs375,373, after a fall of Rs2,572. The local decline came as international gold also moved lower.

Wednesday's local gold rate

Tuesday had gone the other way. The per-tola price reached Rs440,836 after a gain of Rs900, and that rise was in 24-karat gold. The All Sarafa Market and Jewellers Association reported 24-karat gold at Rs440,836 per tola, with 10 grams up Rs771 at Rs377,945. The All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association published the same 24-karat tola and 10-gram figures.

Wednesday's Rs437,836 is that Tuesday tola rate minus Rs3,000. The 10-gram line also matches: Rs377,945 minus Rs2,572 is Rs375,373, the association's Wednesday price for 10 grams.

The tola figure sits beside the 10-gram rate. A shop bill can still be higher once making charges are added. The association rates do not include those charges.

The Tuesday increase and the Wednesday decrease were both reported on the standard per-tola quote. On Tuesday the 24-karat tola price and the 10-gram price moved up together, by Rs900 and Rs771. On Wednesday the tola price and the 10-gram price moved down together, by Rs3,000 and Rs2,572. Silver, which had not changed on Tuesday, joined the decline on Wednesday.

International bullion and silver

International gold was down by $30, at $4,153 an ounce, on Wednesday. On Tuesday it had gained $9 to settle at $4,183 an ounce, and domestic gold had risen with that move. The Wednesday fall in the Pakistani market followed the lower overseas price.

Local silver fell by Rs172 to Rs6,360 per tola. On Tuesday, 24-karat silver had stayed at Rs6,532 per tola, with no change through the day. Wednesday's silver price is Rs172 below that Tuesday quote.
