An armed clash between two groups in the Malana area has left five people dead and four injured, police in Dera Ismail Khan said. The shooting happened in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the groups were on their way back from a volleyball match.
How the clash unfolded
Ziauddin Ahmad, a police official for the district, said members of the two groups exchanged fire while returning from the match. Five people were killed and four were hurt, he said. The account he gave did not name the groups or explain what argument led to the firing.
Police have described a clash between those two groups, with the violence tied to the return from the game. They have not said, in that account, whether the dead and the injured were from one side or from both.
Hospital and the inquiry
The injured were taken to Dera Ismail Khan Central Teaching Hospital for treatment, Ahmad said. He added that an investigation was underway. That statement did not include the names of those killed, the condition of the wounded, or any mention of arrests.
For now, the confirmed record is the location in Malana, the setting after a volleyball match, and the toll. District police say the inquiry is open, and further facts will have to come from that work.
