Police in Karachi have taken a suspect into custody over an alleged assault and misconduct against senior journalist Kashif Hashmi at Nazimabad Police Station. A District Central police spokesperson said on Thursday, October 15, that the suspect is Ali, son of Muhammad Samad. The arrest makes Ali the journalist assault suspect in the case, but the allegations have not been tested in court.
How the case was handled
Kashif Hashmi is a senior journalist and a former president of the Crime Reporters Association (CRA). According to the spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District Central Dr Muhammad Imran Khan took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry. The suspect was taken into custody on the SSP's orders following that inquiry.
What is still unclear
The sources do not describe what the alleged assault or misconduct involved, and they do not list any charges. The spokesperson said further proceedings would be conducted on merit and in line with the rules and regulations. No court hearing has been reported. Until the case moves forward, the journalist assault suspect faces allegations, not a finding of guilt.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Karachi police ne Nazimabad Police Station mein senior sahafi Kashif Hashmi par kathith hamle aur badsulooki ke ilzam mein ek shakhs Ali ko hirasat mein le liya hai. Police ke mutabiq SSP ke hukm par inquiry ke baad yeh karwai hui. Ilzamat abhi sabit nahi hue, aur aage ki karwai qanoon ke mutabiq hogi. Aam logon ke liye matlab yeh hai ke aisi shikayat par police inquiry kar sakti hai, lekin tafseel ka intezar karna behtar hai.
