On Wednesday, security sources said an operation in the Palantak area of Washuk district in Balochistan ended with five terrorists dead and four militants injured. The sources said the forces targeted militant hideouts with modern weapons. They said the dead had been looting the public and spreading fear and panic in the area.

The Palantak operation

Security sources said modern weapons and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists who were killed. They said the forces had aimed the operation at militant hideouts. Four militants were injured in the same action. Names of the dead and the wounded were not given, so those identities are still unconfirmed.

Attacks, Mastung and Kabul

The Washuk action comes as security forces and law enforcement agencies step up counterterrorism operations across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On 7 October, security sources said, forces conducted an operation against Fitna al-Hindustan in Mastung and killed five militants. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from them as well.

Cross-border terrorist incidents have risen sharply, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021. September 2026 brought Pakistan's highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, known as PICSS, is an Islamabad-based independent organisation that monitors anti-state violence. It recorded 225 militant attacks in September, compared with 199 in August, an increase of 13 percent and the third monthly rise in a row.

More than once, Islamabad has asked Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan land to strike inside Pakistan. Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban regime has not taken effective action against groups that attack Pakistani security forces and civilians. The two sides have held multiple rounds of talks and have still not settled their differences. Militant groups operating from Afghan soil remain a major point of contention.

They said five terrorists were killed and four militants injured, with weapons and ammunition recovered from the dead, and they separately described five militants killed in Mastung on 7 October.

FAQ

Security sources describe a Wednesday operation in Washuk and another on 7 October in Mastung. PICSS recorded 225 militant attacks in September 2026, up from 199 in August. The sources said the men killed in Palantak had been looting people and spreading fear. That is not a verdict on the whole province, but it shows militant violence and security action are continuing in parts of Balochistan.
