Security forces killed five terrorists and injured four others on Wednesday during a security forces operation in Balochistan, hitting militant hideouts in the Palantak area of Washuk district. Security sources said the intelligence-based action was carried out under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3 and was aimed at men affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan. A cache of modern weapons and ammunition was recovered from those who were killed.
How the Washuk operation unfolded
Security sources said the hideouts were engaged with modern weapons. They said the men who were killed had been looting local Baloch people, spreading fear and harassment, and damaging infrastructure, and that they had also been spreading fear and panic in the area. The sources added that the forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism from Balochistan and that operations will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.
The Washuk action comes amid intensified counterterrorism work by security forces and law enforcement agencies across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On 7 October, security sources said, an operation against Fitna al-Hindustan in Mastung left five militants dead, with weapons and ammunition recovered.
Weapons seized and political reaction
Security sources said the recovered items included an RPG-7 launcher (a shoulder-fired rocket weapon), five rounds, five advanced weapons with magazines, three mobile phones and two motorcycles. Praise for the security forces operation in Balochistan came the same day from President Asif Ali Zardari, who vowed that effective operations would continue against elements seeking to undermine peace and security in the province and to spread fear among the public.
"The conspiracies of terrorists' foreign sponsors and their local facilitators will be thwarted at all costs," the president said. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the operation showed the professional skill of the security forces and that timely action had foiled the militants' plans. He commended their efforts for peace and stability, said the nation stood with the security institutions, and praised their resolve to build lasting peace in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
