The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has removed two more local lines from scheduled power cuts. Spokesman Sadiq Kubar said on Sunday that the 11 KV Chak 190 feeder in Mirpurkhas and the 11 KV Dr Noor Muhammad feeder in Hyderabad are now exempt. With those additions, he said, 77 feeders in the company’s area are free of HESCO load shedding as a scheduled measure.
HESCO, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, is the utility that issued the notice for lines in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas. In this announcement a feeder is an 11 KV line, meaning 11 kilovolts, a medium voltage that delivers power to a group of consumers through local transformers. Scheduled cuts mean outages the company plans in advance, rather than an outage caused by a fault.
What was announced
Kubar gave the update on Sunday, 11 October, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported. Chief executive Faizullah Dahiri announced the Chak 190 exemption at a ceremony in Mirpurkhas. The spokesman said the Dr Noor Muhammad feeder, the 77th line cleared of scheduled cuts, was announced at an event in Qasimabad under HESCO’s Operation Subdivision Qasimabad.
Conditions on the Mirpurkhas line
Dahiri said the Chak 190 exemption was being given on three assurances from consumers in that area. They would not steal electricity, they would not allow anyone else to steal it, and they would keep line losses from crossing 20 percent.
Line losses are units that leave the network and are never billed, including electricity taken illegally and power lost along the wires. The chief executive said his aim was to take 70 percent of feeders off HESCO load shedding by curbing theft and line losses. The APP report does not say what share of feeders has already reached that status.
Who is connected
The Chak 190 feeder is supplied through 153 transformers, Kubar said. It serves 2,969 domestic consumers, 112 commercial consumers, 25 industrial consumers, 19 agricultural consumers and 18 other consumers.
The Dr Noor Muhammad feeder is smaller. The spokesman said it has 774 consumers and 22 transformers.
What the notice does not cover
The report does not give the total number of HESCO feeders, so readers cannot tell from this statement alone how close the 70 percent mark is. It also does not say how many hours of cuts the two lines had faced. Homes and businesses on other feeders are outside the announcement.
For customers on these two lines, HESCO load shedding as a scheduled practice has been declared over, with the Chak 190 decision tied to the assurances Dahiri described. The utility has not announced a general end to cuts across Hyderabad or Mirpurkhas.
