South District Police raided the Karachi home of Azad Khan Jakhrani on Wednesday and withdrew after security staff resisted. Azad is a brother of Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, an MNA (member of the National Assembly) from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The house is on Khayaban-e-Rahat in DHA Phase VI. DHA, the Defence Housing Authority, is a large planned residential area in Karachi.

Accounts of the Karachi police raid say officers met resistance, and a heated argument followed between the station house officer and security staff at the house. A station house officer, often called an SHO, is the officer in charge of a police station. In video from the scene, Mumtaz Jakhrani is seen trying to keep the officers from coming in. Once that confrontation was over, the police left.

Officers have not said why they came. Asked what information had sent them to the address, and why this residence was picked, officials could not explain. The only point they made was that obstructing official duty would bring legal action. The accounts do not report an arrest.

What the family alleges

Relatives say MNA Aijaz Jakhrani was behind the decision to send police to the house. Police have not backed that claim.

Speaking on video from Saudi Arabia, Azad Jakhrani said his brother was harassing the family out of personal ego. He also said Aijaz Jakhrani was trying to keep them from their share of the family property. Khalid Jakhrani pointed to the same cause: property and inheritance within the family.

What Aijaz Jakhrani said

Aijaz Jakhrani said the raid was news to him. He said Azad must have done something that brought the police. He called Azad and Khalid half-brothers and said he keeps no link with them.

He accused Azad of drug-related activity, said he had broken off relations with him, and said he had already announced that break on social media. Police did not mention drugs when they were asked about the visit, so the claim remains his accusation.

What is still unanswered

The Karachi police raid sits in public view without a stated offence. Officers have said that blocking duty can lead to legal action, yet they have not said a case has been filed, and they have not named any paper that brought them to the gate. The family’s account of a property fight and the MNA’s denial remain side by side, with no court result set out in the accounts.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Budh ke din Karachi ke DHA Phase VI mein police Azad Khan Jakhrani ke ghar par gayi aur muqabla hone ke baad wapas chali gayi. Staff ne police ko andar aane se rokne ki koshish ki, aur afsaron ne raid ki wajah nahi batayi. Khandan kahta hai ke MNA Aijaz Jakhrani ne raid karwayi; unhon ne kaha ke unhein is ka ilm nahi. In bayanon mein kisi giraftari ka zikr nahi.
