Pakistan foreign reserves today stand at $26.863 billion, the latest State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) figure shows, after the total rose in the week ended October 9, 2026. The country is now close to the $27 billion mark. The weekly increase was $65.9 million.

Liquid reserves are funds that can be turned into dollars quickly, and the total is the sum of two parts. The SBP's own holdings rose by $15.8 million to $21.470 billion, up from $21.454 billion a week earlier. Reserves held by commercial banks, the private lenders that keep dollar balances, increased by $50.1 million to $5.394 billion over the same period. The central bank said the rise reflected growth in both parts.

Where the weekly gain came from

Most of the increase came from commercial banks, whose holdings rose by $50.1 million of the total $65.9 million. The SBP's own figure, which is the core of the sbp foreign exchange reserves series, rose by a smaller $15.8 million. Both movements were small compared with the overall total of about $26.9 billion.

The SBP also said the reserves can cover imports for 3.04 months. In plain terms, the dollars held could pay for about three months of imports. That is a measure of the buffer, not a forecast of how long it will last.

Close to $27 billion, but not there yet

Pakistan foreign reserves today remain just below the $27 billion mark. By simple subtraction, the gap is about $137 million. None of the material published so far gives a forecast for the coming weeks, so it is not clear whether the total will cross $27 billion in the next weekly figure.

Foreign reserves are a buffer Pakistan uses to pay for imports and foreign debt. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), whose lending programme Pakistan is part of, tracks these figures closely.
