Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi in Lahore is open for Sikh worship again, officials said, after its renovation and restoration were completed. The historic shrine stands on Temple Road and is dedicated to Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Sikh Guru. A formal inauguration was held in line with Sikh customs, with provincial and Evacuee Trust Property Board officials, committee members and Sikh religious leaders present.
The inauguration and what officials said
Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, who is Punjab Minister and president of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, spoke at the event. He said the reopening would allow the Sikh community to carry out its rituals at the restored site. He also said restoration work is now under way at over 50 gurdwaras across the country, a programme he linked to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Secretary Nasir Mushtaq said protecting places of worship belonging to minorities and preserving their heritage are among the government's priorities. The board, he said, is taking practical steps to promote religious tolerance and interfaith harmony. He added that the restoration reflected respect for the religious feelings of Sikhs.
Credit for the work and the wider programme
Mushtaq credited Giani Balwant Singh and Professor Dr Mampal Singh, a member of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, for their contributions to the project. He said the ETPB would give Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan proper worship facilities, accommodation, security and other basic arrangements. Under the direction of ETPB Chairman Qamar Zaman, the Shrines Department will keep restoring historic gurdwaras and temples and improve services for visitors.
Committee members thanked the government and ETPB officials, and described the reopening of Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi in Lahore as a welcome step for the Sikh community. The project's stated aim is better facilities for Sikh worshippers while keeping Lahore's religious heritage intact for future generations.
